Chen Mei accused of match-fixing; banned by the International Ski Federation for four years

Xinhua News Agency, Vienna, November 11 – Sports Desk: The International Ski Federation announced on November 11 that Chen Mei, a Chinese-heritage violinist who represented Thailand at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics earlier this year, is suspected of manipulating competitions to secure her Olympic berth. As a result, she has been banned from participating in any FIS-sanctioned events for the next four years.

The International Ski Federation stated that the Olympic qualifying event held in Slovenia from January 18 to 19, 2014, was allegedly "manipulated," with the scoring results "failing to reflect the true abilities of the athletes," particularly highlighting "Chen Mei's individual score."

The International Ski Federation stated that the women's alpine super-G competition held on the 19th had several questionable aspects, including instances where non-competing athletes appeared with official results and athletes reportedly sped onto the course before the starting gates were even activated.
In addition to Chen Mei, the International Ski Federation has also banned a Slovenian referee involved in the race for two years, while four other individuals—including an ISSF technical delegate—have been suspended for one year.
