The Olympic spirit lights up youth: Olympic champions like Zhang Yufei and Wang Ciyue visit Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
On March 27, the "2025 China National Team Public Service Campaign—Olympic Athletes Visit Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications," hosted by the Sports Equipment & Equipment Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, was held at the Xianlin Campus Gymnasium. Shooting Olympic champion Yang Qian, swimming Olympic champion Zhang Yufei, synchronized swimming Olympic champion Wang Ciyue, national cheerleading champion Lin Yihang, and Ma Kewei were invited to join the event, where they shared their personal growth stories with nearly 3,000 faculty and students from the university, enthusiastically discussed Olympic tales, promoted the Olympic spirit, and inspired young students to bravely challenge themselves and relentlessly pursue excellence.

Before the launch ceremony began, the distinguished guests and leaders attending the event joined Olympic champions Yang Qian, Zhang Yufei, and Wang Ciyue in touring the Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (Nanjing UoPT) History Museum. Guided by a knowledgeable docent, they delved into the university’s more than 80-year history, its unique academic strengths, and its remarkable achievements in the field of information and communication technology—all brought to life through rare historical photographs, authentic exhibits, and immersive multimedia displays.

At the launch ceremony, Secretary Guo Yufeng and Director Yu Jianyong from the Equipment Center of the General Administration of Sport of China delivered speeches, expressing their hope that this event would help young students gain a deeper understanding of the Olympic spirit, foster the development of campus sports culture, and contribute to nurturing well-rounded socialist builders and successors—individuals who excel in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor-based education.

Director Yu Jianyong, Secretary Guo Yufeng, and Director Li Jinquan presented honorary certificates to Olympic champions Yang Qian, Zhang Yufei, Wang Ciyue, and other outstanding athletes, recognizing their remarkable contributions to the sports community. Director Yu Jianyong also gifted Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications with the podium attire worn by the athletes at the Paris Olympics, while Secretary Guo Yufeng reciprocated by presenting the university with a model of the school.

The subsequent series of events, including the "Champion Lecture Hall" and "University Physical Education Classes," delivered a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship and served as an inspiring ideological and political lesson for faculty and students across the campus. During the "Champion Lecture Hall" segment, three Olympic champions shared their personal growth stories, training anecdotes, and insights from competition, radiating sportsmanship and positive energy. Through their real-life experiences, they conveyed to students that only through relentless effort—and by rising again and again after being knocked down by challenges—can one ultimately achieve the fulfillment of their dreams.

Yang Qian, the first gold medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, took the stage first, sharing in detail her journey from a "shooting novice" to an Olympic champion. Day after day, she practiced lifting, aiming, and firing her rifle—behind those seemingly monotonous drills lay pressures and perseverance that most people could hardly imagine. "The most important thing during competition is staying calm and trusting every single shot you take," she emphasized. She encouraged her classmates to approach both academic and personal challenges with the same focus and composure as a shooter—keeping their eyes firmly on the target while maintaining mental stability.

“From being unable to hold onto the kingdom, to reclaiming it all over again—I’ve imagined countless possibilities, but giving up was never one of them,” shared “Butterfly Queen” Zhang Yufei, recounting her journey of rediscovering confidence after hitting rock bottom and reflecting on her relentless years of in the pool. Rising from setbacks and growing stronger through failure, she inspired her peers with her own story: “I may fall at the finish line of the pool, but I’ll *never* give up on the final stretch itself. After all, what doesn’t knock me down only makes me even more resilient.” In her radiant smile shines the unyielding spirit of sportsmanship—never saying die.

Wang Ciyue shared the inspiring story behind synchronized swimming. "Talent is the seed, but only sweat can nurture it into bloom." With its high-intensity routines and exacting standards, every breakthrough comes hand-in-hand with both sweat and pain. "But when you finally reach the top, all the effort and hardship melt away as tears of sheer joy." She encouraged her classmates to bravely step out of their comfort zones—and in doing so, discover a stronger, better version of themselves through perseverance.

During the interactive session, the three champions patiently answered students' questions, sharing their experiences openly—ranging from technical details to mental strategies—with no holds barred. The atmosphere was electric, filled with continuous applause and laughter.

The "University Physical Education Class" segment was particularly exciting and diverse. During the laser target-shooting activity, Yang Qian provided expert guidance, helping students experience the unique significance of shooting sports. Meanwhile, in the core-strength training and warm-up technique session, Zhang Yufei and Wang Ciyue coached students on essential physical fitness exercises. The postal and telecommunications-themed team competition, led by five champions, fostered joyful interactions among participants, boosting everyone's enthusiasm for sports in a lively and engaging atmosphere.
