Xinhua News Agency's Sports Department has named China's Top 10 Athletes of 2024, with three swimmers selected.

Xinhua News Agency's Sports Department has selected the Top 10 Chinese Athletes of 2024 as follows (listed in order of the number of strokes in their surnames):

1. Ma Long (Male, 36, Table Tennis)

In the Paris Olympics men's team table tennis final, Ma Long, captain of China's men's national team, led his squad to a 3-0 victory over Sweden, clinching the gold medal. This triumph also marked Ma Long's sixth Olympic gold, making him the Chinese athlete with the most Olympic gold medals in history. At the opening ceremony of the Paris Games, Ma Long and artistic swimmer Feng Yu served as the flag bearers for the Chinese sports delegation. On October 30, Ma Long was awarded the 2024 Outstanding Sports Career Award by the Association of National Olympic Committees.

2. China Rhythmic Gymnastics Team

In the Paris Olympics rhythmic gymnastics team all-around final, China's rhythmic gymnastics squad clinched victory with a score of 69.800, securing the country's first-ever Olympic gold medal in the event.

3. Deng Yawen (Female, 19 years old, BMX)

In the women's freestyle BMX park final at the Paris Olympics, Deng Yawen clinched the gold medal with a score of 92.60. This also marks China's first-ever Olympic gold in freestyle BMX.

4. Deng Zhixuan (Female, 15 years old, Wushu)

At the 4th World Tai Chi Championship, 14-year-old Deng Zhixuan won both the women's Simplified 32-form Taijijian and the Wu-style Taijiquan (46-form) events, becoming the youngest Chinese athlete to claim a double world championship title.

5. Quan Hongchan (Female, 17, Diving)

At the Doha World Aquatics Championships diving event, Quan Hongchan won the women's 10m platform title and teamed up with Chen Yuxi to claim the gold medal in the women's synchronized 10m platform. At the Paris Olympics, she once again triumphed in both events, becoming the youngest triple Olympic champion in Chinese team history.

6. Yang Jiayu (Female, 28 years old, Athletics)

In the women's 20km race walk final at the Paris Olympics, Yang Jiayu clinched the gold medal with a time of 1 hour, 25 minutes, and 54 seconds, becoming the first athlete to achieve the prestigious Grand Slam—winning titles at the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games, National Games, and holding the world record all in one career.

7. Zheng Qinwen (Female, 22, Tennis)

In the Paris Olympics women's singles tennis final, Zheng Qinwen clinched the gold medal, becoming the first Asian player to win an Olympic singles title in tennis. Earlier, she reached the runner-up spot at the Australian Open, securing her career-best Grand Slam performance. She also finished as runner-up at both the Wuhan Open and the WTA Finals. Additionally, Zheng Qinwen was honored with the 2024 Season Fans' Favorite Singles Player Award and the 250 Series Best Moment Award at the WTA Year-End Awards.

8. Sheng Lihao (Male, 20 years old, Shooting)

In the Paris Olympics' 10-meter air rifle mixed team event, Sheng Lihao and Huang Yuting clinched the first gold medal of the Games. Meanwhile, in the men's 10-meter air rifle final, Sheng Lihao claimed victory with a score of 252.2 points, securing his second Olympic gold medal of the tournament.

9. Jiang Yuyan (Female, 20 years old, Para Swimming)

At the Paris Paralympic swimming events, Jiang Yuyan won 7 gold medals, breaking two world records and three Paralympic records. During the closing ceremony, Jiang Yuyan, along with male track and field athlete Di Dongdong, served as the flag bearers for the Chinese delegation.

10. Pan Zhanle (Male, 20 years old, Swimming)

At the Doha World Swimming Championships, Pan Zhanle claimed four gold medals and broke the 100-meter freestyle world record in the men’s 4x100-meter freestyle relay. At the Paris Olympics, in addition to winning the gold medal in the men’s 100-meter freestyle—and breaking the world record he already held—he also helped his teammates claim the championship in the men’s 4x100-meter medley relay.
