This year at the Malaysia Open, Jonatan was eliminated in the round of 16, and at the India leg, he fell short in the semifinals against Denmark’s reigning champion Viktor Axelsen. Now, back in his home country this week, he’ll be aiming high to clinch his first title of the year. Throughout their career, Jonatan has faced Shi Yuqi nine times, securing five victories—but he suffered a tough defeat in their most recent encounter at the Tokyo Olympics.
