Two Chinese female athletes advance to the Snowboard World Cup final.


Chinese snowboarder Cai Xuetong finished second in the women's U-shaped course event at the New Zealand Winter Games and World Cup qualifier held on February 28 in the Queenstown-Wanaka region of New Zealand's South Island, advancing her to the final.
On that day, Cai Xuetong earned a high score of 90.50 in her first run, placing her first overall. However, during her second run, U.S. athlete Kelly Clark scored 93.75 points, surpassing Cai Xuetong to claim the top spot in the preliminary round.
Another Chinese athlete, Sun Zhifeng, earned 74.25 points in her second run, placing sixth among the 18 athletes who competed in the preliminary round—and also advancing to the final.
According to the competition rules, the top six athletes from the preliminary round will compete on the 30th for the Women's Snowboard Halfpipe World Cup title. Sun Zhifeng, who currently ranks sixth, will be the first to take the stage, while Cai Xuetong will perform fifth.
In the men's snowboard U-shaped terrain World Cup qualifying event held that day, the two Chinese athletes competing finished in 15th and 19th place respectively, missing out on the final.
The New Zealand Winter Games have been held since 2009, taking place every two years. The competition venues are concentrated in the renowned ski destinations of Queenstown–Wanaka, located on New Zealand's South Island. This year’s event kicks off on the 21st of this month and will run until the 30th, featuring events such as alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, and curling—many of which also serve as World Cup qualifying rounds.
