Wimbledon Week 1: Djokovic's "Unexpected" Exit Leaves Wang Xinyu as the Sole Survivor

The 2024 Wimbledon Championships concluded its third round, with more than half of the men's and women's singles seeds already eliminated.
In the men's singles, Djokovic underwent knee surgery after sustaining an injury at Roland Garros. With his recovery period cut short, he wasn’t widely expected to perform well at this year’s Wimbledon—but surprisingly, he managed to advance all the way into the second week.
After three rounds, three of the top eight seeds were eliminated—Rublev, Hurkacz, and Ruud—joining the other 16 seeded players in bowing out of this year's Wimbledon.

In the women's singles, Swiatek surprisingly lost to Putintseva last night in an upset—though given that the No. 1 seed hasn’t exactly excelled on grass this season, it wasn’t entirely unexpected.
Chinese player Zheng Qinwen, who was the clear pre-tournament favorite, was eliminated in the first round, while Wang Xinyu, despite not having favorable draw luck, became the sole Chinese player to advance into the second week.
