Swimming star Fu Yuanhui lands a job "right at her doorstep": She’s officially joined the Physical Education and Arts Department at Zhejiang University.
According to the WeChat official account "Zhejiang University Sports & Arts" under Zhejiang University, on the morning of January 2, Zhejiang University's Department of Public Sports and Arts organized an orientation training program for newly appointed teachers, aiming to strengthen faculty development and enhance young instructors' professional ethics and expertise. Twelve new teachers, including Wang Yilu and Fu Yuanhui, participated in the training.
At the meeting, appointment letters were also presented to nine new teacher mentors. With the support of the school and department, as well as the guidance and assistance from their mentors, these new teachers will swiftly develop into a strong backbone—dedicated to advancing the school's physical education and arts programs toward high-quality growth, all while keeping in mind the nation's broader interests.
Publicly available information shows that Wang Yilu, born on November 8, 1994, in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, is a former Chinese national badminton team player. He graduated from the School of Public Administration at China University of Geosciences.
Fu Yuanhui was born on January 7, 1996, and hails from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. She joined the provincial team in 2008 and was selected for the national team in 2011. In 2013, she clinched gold medals in the 50-meter and 100-meter backstroke events at the National Swimming Championships. The following year, in 2014, she claimed gold in both the women’s 50-meter and 100-meter backstroke events at the 17th Asian Games. In 2015, Fu made history by winning the women’s 50-meter backstroke and the women’s 4x100-meter medley relay titles at the World Aquatics Championships in Kazan. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, she secured a bronze medal in the women’s 100-meter backstroke. In 2017, she dominated the 13th National Games, claiming gold in the women’s 100-meter backstroke, as well as the men’s and women’s 4x100-meter medley relays, and the women’s 4x100-meter medley relay. Most recently, in 2018, she earned a silver medal in the women’s 50-meter backstroke at the Jakarta Asian Games.
In June 2024, Beijing Sport University held its 2024 graduation ceremony, during which Fu Yuanhui delivered a speech as the representative of the graduate champion class. Reflecting on her career in competitive sports, she encouraged everyone to unleash their "primordial strength" and strive wholeheartedly—carrying with them the university’s heartfelt blessings—as they work tirelessly to contribute to building a stronger sporting nation and spreading even more positive energy throughout society.
The Department of Public Physical Education and Arts at Zhejiang University was established in 2012. It is responsible for the university's public physical education and arts instruction, as well as the training of sports teams, rehearsals and competitive performances by art groups, the organization and guidance of campus-wide cultural and artistic activities, and the development of the university's sports and arts culture.
In April 2024, the Department of Physical Education and Arts at Zhejiang University issued a public recruitment announcement stating that candidates selected for talent programs must meet the following criteria simultaneously: 1.
