Swimming Day 3 at the Singapore World Championships: Tang Qianting wins bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

On the evening of July 29, the swimming events at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore awarded medals in five different categories.
Men's 200m freestyle final,RomaniaAthlete David Popovici claimed the gold medal with a time of 1:43.53, while U.S. swimmer Luke Hobson finished second in 1:43.84. Japan’s Tatsuya Mura took home the bronze with a time of 1:44.54, and South Korea’s Hwang Sun-woo placed fourth at 1:44.72.Luke Hobson led for most of the race, only to be overtaken by Popovich in the final sprint.
Women's 1500m freestyle final,Li Bingjie swam a time of 15:49.54, finishing in fourth place but narrowly missing out on the podium. Another Chinese swimmer, 18-year-old Yang Peiqi, came in eighth with a time of 16:04.93.
World record holder, United StatesSwimmer Katie Ledecky claimed victory in 15:26.44, marking the fourth-fastest time in history and Ledecky's sixth career title in this event. Meanwhile, Italian athlete Simona Quadarella shattered the European record.Secured second place with a time of 15:31.79,Australian athlete Lani Pallister claimed third place with a time of 15:41.18, becoming the second-fastest competitor in history.

In the finalWorld record holder Ledecky, along with Pellegrini, formed the leading group, staying just ahead of the world-record pace throughout the race. Around the 700-meter mark, Pellegrini noticeably slowed down and dropped to third place, while Ledecky steadily extended her lead, continuing to swim well below her own world record.After 1,300 meters, Ledecky had already pulled ahead of her own world-record pace by 1.72 seconds.Li Bingjie maintained a relatively steady fourth place throughout the race.

Women's 100m backstroke final,Peng Xuwei once again shattered her personal best, finishing fifth with a time of 59.10 seconds. The former world record holder,Australian star athleteKylie Masse defeats the current world record.(57.13)Defending champion and U.S. star Regan Smith, clinching the victory with a meet record and Oceania record time of 57.16 seconds; the latter finished second with 57.35 seconds, while her teammate KatherineBurkeville58.15 seconds for third place.
ReaganSmith and McKeon were neck and neck for most of the race, with Smith still holding a 0.22-second lead as he turned at the 50-meter mark—but McKeon managed to surge ahead in the final 20 meters or so.Smith surged ahead, finishing just narrowly in the lead. Meanwhile, Peng Xuw ei, who was eighth at the halfway mark, mounted a strong finish to climb all the way up to fifth place.

Men's 100m backstroke final,South African athletePeter Coetzee shattered the African record, claiming the gold medal in 51.85 seconds, while Italy's star athlete, Ceconi, narrowly missed out on the podium, taking home the silver with a margin of just 0.05 seconds. As for the French competitor...John Ndiaye Brouard won the bronze medal in 51.92 seconds.

Women's 100m breaststroke final,Tang Qianting, who led for most of the race, was overtaken one after another in the final moments, finishing with a time of 1:05.64 to claim the bronze medal.German swimmer Ellenz surged ahead at the last moment, touching the wall first to claim victory in 1:05.19 and pulling off a stunning upset. American star Douglas finished second.

Additionally, inMen's 50m Breaststroke SemifinalMeanwhile, Qian Haiyang, competing in the second heat, recorded a time of 26.52.SecondRanked first, advancing to the finals.Sun Jiajun had a poor performance in the preliminaries, finishing with a time of just 27.55.Second, failed to advance to the semifinals.

Women's 200m Freestyle SemifinalLi Bingjie swam a time of 1:55.98, finishing seventh and advancing to the final. Liu Yaxin clocked 1:56.37, placing ninth and unfortunately missing out on the final.
Men's 200m butterfly semifinal,Chen Jun'er delivered an outstanding performance, smashing his own national record with a time of 1:54.02 and advancing to the final in third place overall. Italian athlete Luca Ulandi topped the rankings with 1:52.84, while Canadian competitor Khmilievsky claimed second place at 1:53.61.
Chen Jun'er has entered two individual events at this year's World Championships: the men's 100m butterfly and the 200m butterfly. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, he made the official roster but unfortunately didn’t secure a spot in any individual event—instead, he only competed in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay.
Xu Fang swam a time of 1:56.99 in the preliminary round, finishing 19th overall and missing out on a spot in the semifinals.

In the men's 800m freestyle heats held this morning, Fei Liwei and Zhang Zhanshuo delivered lackluster performances, failing to advance to the final in a disappointing result for both swimmers.
