[Just for You] Do you really know which ski resort is right for you?

When it comes to choosing a ski resort, it’s crucial—whether you’re a beginner or an expert skier. As a beginner skier myself, I’ve noticed firsthand how frustrating it can be when experienced skiers struggle on slopes better suited for less advanced riders. That’s exactly what happened during our recent trip: while the beginners enjoyed the gentle terrain, our seasoned skiers found themselves facing challenges they shouldn’t have had to deal with. So, as someone who’s been there, I’d like to remind all skiers to take the selection of a ski resort seriously. After all, picking the right spot can make or break your experience. Let’s dive into some tips and insights together—because finding the perfect slope is key to mastering the art of skiing!

1. Beijing Nanshan Ski Resort

Rating: 8.5

Benefits: Well-equipped facilities and plenty of fun activities

Drawback: Slightly expensive—earning 3,000 yuan a month only allows for one gaming session per month.

After 11 years of continuous development and refinement, we have now established a comprehensive network of 21 ski runs—featuring advanced, intermediate, and beginner slopes, as well as dedicated teaching and recreational trails. We are also proud to host China’s renowned off-piste snow park and ski park (Nanshan Mailuo Park). Moreover, we were the first in China to introduce cutting-edge "Mogul Slopes" and "Wave Runs" tailored for skiers of all levels—from beginners to experts. During the 2012–2013 ski season, we added a brand-new "Children’s Dual-Ski Teaching Trail" at the southeastern side of the guest equipment hall’s southern slope, complemented by a state-of-the-art "magic carpet" conveyor belt designed specifically for repetitive practice. This initiative creates a safe, enclosed learning environment, perfectly suited for the growing number of "second-generation skiers" in the capital region, helping them take their first steps into the world of skiing with confidence and ease.

2. Wanlong Ski Resort

Rating: 8.7

Benefits: Excellent snow quality, and the course design is perfect for technical riders.

Drawbacks: Ski resort equipment rental and accommodation are relatively expensive, and there are limited beginner-friendly slopes to choose from.

As a ski resort positioned at an international standard, Wanlong Ski Resort has already achieved considerable quality and substantial scale, earning widespread recognition from both the public and industry professionals. In fact, some of its slopes have even been certified by the International Ski Federation (FIS). Wanlong Ski Resort has successfully hosted the "3rd to 6th China Chongli International Ski Festivals" consecutively from 2003 to 2006—events that have become immensely popular and are frequently chosen as venues for various international activities.

The Changbai Mountain International Resort Ski Area enjoys a uniquely advantageous location, situated along the golden ski resort belt at 41 degrees north latitude. Influenced by the maritime air currents from the Sea of Japan and the Siberian monsoon climate, the area receives over 1,200 millimeters of rainfall annually. The ski season spans from November to April of the following year—lasting a full six months—during which snow depths consistently exceed 1 meter. The snow is light, fluffy, and soft, earning it the distinction of being the only ski resort in China hailed as a "caring, harbor-like haven," making it a favorite destination for many skiers.

The resort is divided into three distinct zones: a snow tubing run, a snowboarding area, and a play-and-snow zone. Covering a total area of about 10,000 square meters, the ski resort has seen a total investment of roughly 4 million yuan. The snow tubing run features a relatively steep slope, averaging 12 degrees—with the steepest section reaching 17 degrees. Reportedly, the Huangshui Dafengbao Ski Resort can comfortably accommodate hundreds of visitors enjoying winter activities simultaneously. Typically, the ski season here lasts around 50 days, running from late November through mid-March of the following year. The resort officially opened its doors after the first snowfall in 2011, with operations expected to kick off again in late November. In cases where natural snowfall is insufficient, the resort will rely on artificial snowmaking—but only if outdoor temperatures remain consistently below freezing.

6.Beijing Huaibei International Ski Resort

Rating: 8.3

Benefits: The track is great, and the scenery is beautiful.

Drawbacks: Not suitable for public transportation; crowded on holidays.

Covering an area of 9.6 square kilometers, it is also one of the most picturesque ski resorts in China—and indeed the world. The landscape seamlessly blends 23 watchtowers with the undulating expanse of the "Muyu" section of the Great Wall, while the famed "Jia Bian Tower" stands out as the only such landmark along the entire length of the Wall. Meanwhile, a modern, architecturally striking complex—featuring snow equipment shops and a building that mirrors the grandeur of the nearby Great Wall—creates a stunning visual contrast. And for an extra touch of European charm, cozy Finnish-style wooden villas and inviting restaurants and cafes complete the experience, evoking the ambiance of a quintessential Alpine ski town.
