Announcement: 2025 China · Jiande 17°C Xin'anjiang "Summer Winter Swimming" Challenge

The China • Jiande 17°C Xin'an River "Summer Winter Swimming" Challenge is a traditional event in Jiande, serving as the city's golden hallmark. Held annually for many years, it has become a renowned sports event in Zhejiang Province—a major gathering for winter swimming enthusiasts from across China. The 2025 China • Jiande 17°C Xin'an River "Summer Winter Swimming" Challenge will take place on July 26–27, 2025, in Jiande’s scenic Xin'an River area. Nearly 2,500 winter swimming enthusiasts and top-level aficionados are expected to join the event, celebrating the new brand concept of "City of Light Extreme Sports" through immersive water activities and thrilling athletic competitions, all set against the stunning backdrop of Jiande’s pristine natural landscape. To ensure a safe and unforgettable experience, the official event guidelines are now announced as follows:

3. Event Theme

Summer winter swimming: Share the refreshing 17°C coolness

4. Event Categories

(1) Competition: Cold-Resistant Warriors New Anjiang River Group Challenge

Time: July 27, 2025, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Starting point: The waterfront platform at Hongqiao Park on the southern bank of the Xin'an River; ending point: The waterfront platform at the Citizens' Cooling Stage. The total distance is 900 meters, with water temperatures ranging from 12.6°C to 17°C and a current speed of 1.5 meters per second.

(II) Swimming Adventure: Cold-Resistant Warriors Take on the Xin'an River

Time: July 27, 2025, 1:30–3:30 p.m.;

Starting point: Jiuxing Fishing Village Pier, ending point: Baixing Cooling-off Grand Stage’s waterfront platform. The entire route follows the current for 1,700 meters, with water temperatures ranging from 12.6°C to 17°C and a current speed of 1.5 meters per second.

Important note: An emergency landing point will be set up along the route at the 1,000-meter mark (near the former speedboat pier). If you feel unwell or decide to give up swimming, you can disembark either at the emergency landing point or at any other location along the riverbank.

(III) 17°C Xin'anjiang "Go Against the Current" Paddleboard Challenge

Time: July 27, 3:30–4:00 PM

Location: Waters between Baisha Bridge and Caihong Bridge

5. Entry Procedure

(1) Age and Number of People

1. Cross-Group Challenge: Participants aged 18–60 (born between July 1, 1965, and June 30, 2007), with approximately 500 participants.

Note: The crossing race is limited to 45 teams, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Each team should send 6 athletes to participate.Require 5 males and 1 female, with the total sum of their ages being at least 240 years.);

2. Free Roam: Ages 18–68 (born between July 1, 1957, and June 30, 2007), with a total of 2,500 participants.

(II) Participants must submit a "Voluntary Participation Liability Agreement" jointly signed by themselves and their team leader, along with the registration fee, to complete the registration process. Team leaders are kindly requested to download the "Voluntary Participation Liability Agreement" and the registration form in advance, sign them, and affix the official seal.

(III) Health Requirements for Participants

"Summer Winter Swimming" is a relatively unique sport performed in cold temperatures, demanding a high level of physical fitness from participants. Participants should be in good health and have a solid foundation of long-term winter swimming practice or training. Individuals can choose to register based on their own physical condition and capabilities. The organizing committee recommends that participants undergo a thorough health check at a qualified medical institution before the event.

The following individuals are not permitted to participate in this event: 1. Patients with congenital heart disease or rheumatic heart disease; 2. Individuals with hypertension and cerebrovascular diseases; 3. Those suffering from myocarditis or other heart conditions; 4. Patients with coronary artery disease or severe arrhythmias; 5. Individuals with diabetes experiencing dangerously high or low blood sugar levels; 6. Anyone otherwise unfit for this type of physical activity.

During the event, participants shall be personally responsible for any personal injury or property damage caused by individual health conditions or other personal reasons.

(4) Cold-Endurance Requirement: Participants must demonstrate the ability to swim continuously for over 1500 meters, as well as the resilience to withstand and endure swimming in water temperatures ranging from approximately 12.6°C to 17°C—even under extreme outdoor summer conditions where temperatures can soar up to 40°C—for at least 30 minutes.

(5) Qualification Requirements:The team leader is responsible for screening and signing off to confirm whether the team members meet the eligibility requirements for participation.First-time participants (including Changyou) must arrive at the Jiande 17°C Xin’an River “Summer Winter Swimming” base one day in advance, as required by the organizing committee, to take part in a trial swim test. Only athletes who meet the test criteria will be eligible to join the official event on July 27.

(6) Active athletes are only allowed to participate in Changyou.

(7) Team Participation Requirements: Winter swimming enthusiasts from across the country, as well as foreign swimming enthusiasts, are welcome to join. It is recommended that teams be formed through local winter swimming associations (or swimming associations) for unified registration.

6. Competition Rules

(1) The competition will follow the relevant competition rules issued by the Swimming Sports Administration Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and the Chinese Swimming Association.

(II) The crossing race will feature a single final round, with rankings determined by performance. In cases of tied results, the tied competitors will share the same ranking, and the next position will be skipped altogether.

(III) Athletes must present valid personal identification and their timing wristband to the registration judge upon entering the competition; those without both documents will not be allowed to compete.

(4) Anyone found to have engaged in impersonation or falsified information will have their own and their team’s entire competition results and awards revoked, and will be subject to penalties as outlined by the relevant competition rules.

(5) Grouping or combined starts will be determined based on the number of registered participants. Any athlete caught jumping before the signal or pulling other competitors will have their competition eligibility and results immediately disqualified.

(6) Participating athletes must wear the swim caps and safety buoy provided by the organizing committee; otherwise, their race results will not be counted.

(7) All athletes participating in the crossing challenge must not wear wetsuits; instead, their swimwear must be made of breathable, opaque textile materials. Each athlete is permitted to wear only one piece of swimwear during the competition. For male athletes, the swimwear must cover no higher than the navel and no lower than the knees. Female athletes may choose either a one-piece or two-piece swimsuit, but it must not cover the neck, extend beyond the shoulders, or fall below the knees. Any violation of these rules will result in disqualification.

(8) Swimmers must check in according to the scheduled times and starting numbers listed in the program, and they are required to wear the special "tail marker" distributed by the organizing committee; otherwise, they will not be allowed to check in or enter the water.

7. Admission Rewards

(1) The top 12 teams in the overall standings will receive trophies and cash prizes.

(III) Scoring Method

1. The team relay challenge is divided into 6 groups, with each group competing in a single final round. Points are awarded as follows: 1st to 8th place in each group receive 15, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, and 7 points, respectively; 9th to 12th place earn 4 points each; and 13th place and lower receive 2 points each.

2. Each player earns 1 point, with a maximum of 100 points per team;

3. Method for calculating the team total score: The team's total score is the sum of their Crossing Team Challenge points and Freestyle Swim points. The team with the higher total score ranks higher. If two or more teams have the same total score, the team with more first-place finishes ranks higher; if still tied, the team with more second-place finishes takes precedence, and so on.

4. The Outstanding Organization Award, Best Popularity Award, and Friendship Promotion Award will be presented by the organizing committee based on each team’s participation count, frequency of involvement, team spirit and appearance, as well as their contributions to promotion efforts.

8. Registration and Check-in

(1) Registration: Registration Period:June 30 to July 10To register, simply click the WeChat QR code below for online sign-up. Registration is limited to 2,500 participants, and spots will close once this cap is reached. Please ensure that each team completes registration by July 10. (2) Registration: On July 26, the entire day, the organizing committee will have dedicated staff available at the lobby of the Xian'anju Kaiyuan Mingting Hotel in Jiande City (Address: No. 1 Jiangbin Middle Road, Xin'anjiang Subdistrict, Jiande City). Participating teams should submit the "Voluntary Participation Liability Form," collect their competition materials, and receive the event program booklet. At 7:00 PM that evening, a team leaders' meeting will be held in Halls A and B on the sixth floor of the Xian'anju Kaiyuan Mingting Hotel. Each team is requested to send one representative to attend. (Address: No. 1 Jiangbin Middle Road, Xin'anjiang Subdistrict, Jiande City)

(3) Fees: Each participant is required to pay a fee of 200 yuan (including a registration fee of 100 yuan and a 100-yuan deposit for the timing wristband, which will be refunded after the event upon returning the wristband—no refund will be provided if the wristband is lost). All teams are encouraged to complete the payment promptly during registration. The registration fee covers participation items, accident injury insurance, and a special 17°C Xin'anjiang "Summer Winter Swimming" swimmer benefit voucher gifted by the organizing committee (voucher benefits include free admission to three major state-owned attractions—Daci Rock, Xinye Ancient Village, and Lingqi Cave—as well as a 50% discount on regular ticket prices at state-owned sites such as Qiandao Lake’s Good Fortune Island, Qili Yangfan, and Jiangqing Yuejinren scenic areas).

9. Arbitration, Adjudication

Arbitrators, the chief judge, and other officials will be selected by the Organizing Committee.

10. Award Ceremony

From 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM on July 27, the award ceremony will be held at the Xin'anjiang People's Cooling-Off Stage. Award-winning team leaders are requested to bring their 10 team members, all wearing uniform attire and carrying the team flag, to attend the event.

XI. Other

(1) When registering, each team must verify their participants' registration forms at the registration desk and submit a "Voluntary Participation Agreement" (one form per person). Please download the form online in advance, fill it out and have it signed by your team leader before submitting it collectively.

(II) The Organizing Committee will purchase individual accident insurance and event liability insurance for each participant, and medical services will be provided during the event; however, participants are responsible for covering any associated costs.

(III) This season, the water temperature of the Xin'an River ranges from approximately 12.6°C to 17°C.

(Four) Special Reminder: Swimming in the water is strictly prohibited during the event (the winter swimming facility remains closed to the public). Anyone who fails to follow unified instructions or enters the water outside of designated times will be solely responsible for any resulting issues.

(5) In the event of extreme weather or other risk factors that prevent the normal holding of the event, the organizing committee will assess the situation and activate the circuit-breaker mechanism to decide whether to shorten the race distance, postpone the event, or cancel the competition altogether.
