National Sports Administration: Thoroughly Addressing the Mindsets of "Gold Medal Obsession" and "Money-Driven Preparation"

On July 18, the General Administration of Sport held a study and training workshop in Beijing to thoroughly implement the spirit of the Central Committee's Eight-Point Regulations. Gao Zhidan, Party Secretary and Director of the General Administration of Sport, delivered an opening speech, while Li Jing, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director, provided a closing summary.
Gao Zhidan first conveyed and studied the important speeches delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping during the Central Politburo's collective study session on June 30 and his inspection tour in Shanxi from July 7 to 8. He emphasized the need to vigorously strengthen conduct building, keep the principle of self-revolution firmly in mind, and urged all units to align themselves with the "five areas of further improvement," thoroughly identifying problems, analyzing their root causes, and effectively implementing targeted rectifications.
Gao Zhidan pointed out that since the launch of the study and education campaign, the Party Leadership Group of the General Administration has strengthened its sense of responsibility and tackled issues head-on, actively driving forward the centralized rectification efforts aimed at clearing and closing outstanding tasks on the administration's dedicated ledger. These efforts have focused particularly on comprehensively addressing the mindset of "prioritizing gold medals above all else" and "using money to prepare for competition," further reducing the scale of overseas training and competitions, accelerating sports reform and promoting grassroots sports development, intensifying management of sports associations, reinforcing comprehensive oversight of cadre management, and swiftly and strictly holding individuals accountable across six key areas—implementing immediate corrective actions and conducting targeted, large-scale reforms.
Gao Zhidan emphasized the need to remain vigilant from start to finish, approaching the follow-up review of learning and education initiatives with a strong sense of political awareness. He urged meticulous organization and implementation, ensuring thorough self-examination across all areas, prioritizing key issues, strengthening institutional reforms, focusing on summarizing lessons learned, and effectively translating insights into practical outcomes.
The training session featured policy guidance from several departments and bureaus on the supplementary institutional documents recently formulated by the General Administration of Sport to implement the spirit of the Central Committee’s Eight-Point Regulations. Additionally, five organizations shared their insights and participated in discussions during the workshop. Senior officials from all departments within the General Administration of Sport, its directly affiliated units, relevant national sports-related social organizations, and key representatives from related enterprises attended the training.
