Resembling Joey Wong, the world No. 1 badminton goddess—still overlooked for key roles?

Once upon a time, China's badminton team was affectionately dubbed the "Dream Team" by countless fans. This team has produced many legendary champions, and among its illustrious roster of players, Wang Shixian undoubtedly stands out as one of the most memorable. Known for her uniquely dynamic playing style, Wang Shixian claimed victory at the Asian Games—but unfortunately, she never had the chance to compete in the Olympics during her illustrious career.

After the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Chinese badminton team underwent internal adjustments, and a group of talented young players began to emerge as rising stars—becoming key targets for the team’s intensive development. Among these exceptional athletes, Wang Shixian certainly stood out as a particularly remarkable figure. Not only does she closely resemble actress Maggie Cheung in appearance, but her on-court performance has also earned her widespread admiration. In early 2010–2011, Wang Shixian made it to the finals of seven major tournaments in a row, clinching four prestigious titles along the way. Her impressive run culminated in winning the All England Open, propelling her to the top spot in the world rankings.

During Wang Shixian's era, there were many other talented young players—athletes like Wang Yihan, Li Xuerui, Wang Xin, Lu Lan, and Wang Lin, all of whom were incredibly skilled. Wang Shixian herself engaged in fierce competition with them. Originally, Wang Shixian had a strong chance to compete at the London Olympics, but her opportunity was ultimately missed when Li Xuerui unexpectedly emerged as a dominant force.

Although Wang Shixian didn’t get to compete in the Olympics, she has still found her own happiness. At the age of 17, she fell in love with Chen Long, who would later become an Olympic champion—and the two eventually married and started a family. For Wang Shixian, while her professional career may not have been flawless, her personal life is undeniably enviable. She truly is a winner in life, happily married to Chen Long and living a fulfilling, joyful existence.

Wang Shixian, born in 1990, is just over 30 years old this year—an age when some foreign players are still dominating the professional circuit, yet Wang Shixian has already transitioned into a life focused on supporting her family and raising children.
For Wang Shixian, badminton is just one part of life. Although she didn’t manage to win an Olympic title, being able to participate at all was already incredibly impressive—and something she can truly be proud of.

The Chinese badminton team is now actively preparing for upcoming competitions, with everyone hoping they’ll deliver even stronger performances on the court—showcasing their true skill and achieving outstanding results. Fans are confident that the Chinese badminton team will continue to go far, breaking new ground and creating unforgettable moments. Let’s all cheer for the team as they strive to write history once again! Go Chinese badminton team!!!
