Xu Jiayu on rationally supporting athletes: "I suggest they put down their phones and spend more time outdoors."

Recently, Olympic champions Xu JiaYu and Huang Yaqiong were interviewed during an event when asked how to support athletes in a balanced, rational way. Xu JiaYu advised, "I’d suggest they put down their phones and spend more time outdoors enjoying activities." Huang Yaqiong added, "In competitive sports, it’s simply impossible for everyone to win every single time—so let athletes have the time and space they need."
Xu Jiayu said: "I suggest they put down their phones and spend more time outdoors. After all, let’s all focus on enriching our own lives—because when our lives become vibrant and fulfilling, we’ll all feel motivated and optimistic.”
Huang Yaqiong said: "It's not that we can't talk about athletes' shortcomings—objectively analyzing their strengths and weaknesses on the court is actually a positive thing. However, some fans tend to overemphasize certain aspects, often from an irrational perspective."
"I hope everyone starts with the best intentions for the athletes and feels free to offer constructive suggestions, but let’s also avoid undermining their confidence too much."
“Athletes are fully aware of their own issues during training and competition—they’re not unwilling to address them. More often than not, though, if a problem were truly easy to solve, it probably wouldn’t even be considered one in the first place.”
"So I also hope everyone gives the athletes a bit more time,"In competitive sports, it’s impossible for everyone to always win or maintain peak performance levels indefinitely. Let’s give athletes the time and space they need to navigate occasional ups and downs—they deserve that understanding and support.”
