Zhang Chaoyang will challenge himself by swimming across South Aotou Island in Shantou, Guangdong, using the breaststroke on September 14.

On August 6, Zhang Chaoyang, founder, Chairman of the Board, and CEO of Sohu, announced on Sohu Video’s “Focus Stream” that he will continue last year’s tradition of "Swimming Across the Sea" by crossing South Australia Island in Shantou, Guangdong, on September 14. At that time, Sohu Video’s “Zhang Chaoyang” account will provide live coverage throughout the entire event, bringing viewers directly to the heart of the challenge.

Zhang Chaoyang officially announced his cross-sea challenge on Sohu Video's "Follow Feed."

The upcoming challenge takes place on Nan'ao Island, famously known as the "Hawaii of the East." Zhang Chaoyang explained that this time, the swim will cover roughly 8 kilometers—entirely in the breaststroke. Last September, he successfully swam across Liu Gong Island in Weihai, covering a distance of 4.15 kilometers also in the breaststroke. This time, however, the challenge is nearly twice as long as last year's feat. He added, "Right now, I need to step up my training—there’s just over a month left before the big day."

In addition to the increased challenge posed by swimming a longer distance, this crossing will also test participants against unpredictable and ever-changing weather conditions, as well as disruptive natural factors like waves, sea breezes, ocean currents, and tides—potentially even exposing swimmers to risks from marine life. These unknowns of the open-water environment, combined with the daunting task of covering a greater distance, will undoubtedly serve as Zhang Chaoyang’s ultimate "test of endurance" on multiple fronts.

In 2024, Zhang Chaoyang successfully swam across Weihai Bay.

“Exercise gives life to the individual.” For years, Zhang Chaoyang has consistently prioritized physical activity, recognizing its practical value. In his view, swimming isn’t just incredibly beneficial for cervical spine health—it’s also a crucial survival skill. That’s why he encourages everyone to learn how to swim. Meanwhile, through his popular “Focus on Flow” platform, he actively shares insights into his daily routines of swimming and running, personally demonstrating and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

As a seasoned swimming enthusiast, Zhang Chaoyang has steadily taken on several open-water challenges over the past few years, including the Xingcheng Strait, Yichang Qingjiang River, Seoul Han River, and Weihai Bay in Shandong Province.
