Day 1 Results from the National Spring Swimming Championships: Sun Jiajun Claims Gold in the 100m Butterfly
On March 18, the 2025 National Spring Swimming Championships kicked off in Qingdao, Shandong. As one of the highest-level events in China's swimming community, this year's Spring Championships marks the first national-level Category A swimming competition of 2025—and it also serves as a qualifying event for the upcoming 2025 National Swimming Championships, scheduled for May.
In the men's 100m butterfly final, Sun Jiajun claimed victory with a time of 52.08 seconds, while Guangdong’s Chen Jun’er and Zhejiang’s Shen Jiahao finished second and third, respectively. Qin Haiyang placed fourth.
After the race, Sun Jiajun said his performance could have been even better. When asked about his goals for the new season, he remarked: "Focus on doing the process right—stay committed to daily training and give it your all. The outcome isn’t what matters most."

On the same day, the men's 1500m freestyle race was also held, where Shandong team's young athlete Zhang Zhanshuo clinched the gold medal with a time of 14:54.06, setting a new personal best. After the race, he remarked that he performed at his usual level—primarily aiming to assess the results of winter training without making significant adjustments.

In the women's competition, Cheng Yujie clinched the gold medal in the 100m freestyle with a time of 53.91 seconds, while Yu Yiting secured the silver with a personal best of 54.04 seconds—also marking Yu Yiting's fastest-ever performance in this event.

In the women's 200m individual medley final, Zhejiang team swimmer Zheng Huiyi clinched the gold medal with a time of 2:12.18, while Yu Yiting once again secured the silver in her signature event.

At this year's Spring Championships, Yu Yiting entered a remarkable 11 events—making her the athlete with the most entries among all competitors. In a post-match interview, Yu openly admitted that the grueling schedule of back-to-back finals had slightly affected her performance in her main event. "This competition was mainly about using races as training opportunities, and overall, these results are pretty good for my current training progress." Speaking about her winter training, she explained that the focus was on high-altitude training, which has significantly improved her cardiovascular endurance and aerobic capacity. "I’ve also signed up for the 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle this time—events I haven’t competed in much before—and I’m eager to see where my current strength truly lies."
On the 19th, the Spring Championships will award six gold medals: men's 50m breaststroke, 100m backstroke, and 400m freestyle, as well as women's 50m butterfly, 200m breaststroke, and 800m freestyle.
