On the 19th, the 2025 National Spring Swimming Championships concluded in Qingdao, Shandong, awarding six gold medals. Athletes like Sun Jiajun from Hubei and Yu Yiting from Zhejiang claimed the top honors, while Olympic swimming champion Sun Yang secured the silver medal in the men's 400m freestyle.
Men's eventIn the event, Shandong team's young athlete Liu Peixin clinched the men's 400m freestyle title with a time of 3 minutes 46.80 seconds, while Sun Yang secured the silver medal, finishing in 3 minutes 47.94 seconds.
Last August's National Summer Swimming Championships marked Sun Yang's comeback debut. Compared to his time of 3 minutes 49.58 seconds in the men's 400m freestyle final last year, Sun Yang improved by more than one second this time. In a post-race interview, Sun Yang expressed satisfaction with his performance, saying, "It means I'm doing slightly better than last year's version of myself."
Earlier this month, Sun Yang wrapped up his high-altitude training in Yunnan, noting that the winter training period focused heavily on intense sessions aimed at restoring his physical fitness. For this spring's competition, he’s entered only the men’s 400-meter freestyle event. However, he told reporters that he’s still on the road to recovery and added, "I may take on more events later this year as I continue my comeback."
Paris Olympics champion Sun Jiajun clinched the men’s 50m breaststroke gold with a time of 26.85 seconds, earning his second individual medal after winning the men’s 100m butterfly. Meanwhile, Shaanxi’s Jiang Chenglin claimed victory in the men’s 100m backstroke final, touching the wall in 54.67 seconds to claim the top spot.
Women's eventMeanwhile, Yu Yiting, the champion of the Hangzhou Asian Games and bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, clinched the gold medal in the women's 50-meter butterfly with a time of 25.73 seconds, securing the first gold for her team since the Games began.
On the 18th, due to a packed competition schedule, Yu Yiting unfortunately won silver in her signature event, the women’s 200m individual medley. She shared: "There’s always a bit of disappointment, which is why I was aiming for the gold today. After securing that medal, I feel even more motivated!" When asked about her main focus for this year’s National Swimming Championships and the 15th National Games, Yu Yiting emphasized that her primary emphasis will be on the individual medley, with butterfly serving as a supporting event.
The women's 200m breaststroke gold medal was won by Zhu Leiju from the Yunnan team, who clocked a time of 2:27.87. Meanwhile, Yang Peiqi from the Hubei team claimed the women's 800m freestyle title.
On the 20th, the Spring Championships will crown seven gold medalists in the men's 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m butterfly, and 200m freestyle, as well as the women's 50m freestyle, 200m backstroke, and 400m individual medley. Olympic champions Zhang Yufei, Ye Shiwen, and others will be competing on the pool deck.
