This time, what I'm sharing with everyone isJapanese Snowboarding Parallel Turn Video TutorialThe video not only provides a detailed explanation of the parallel turn technique but also includes scoring and thorough analysis for each movement. Without further ado, here’s the video for you—(duration: 5 minutes).
Action Scoring and Judging Criteria:
C. Basic Turns:
Push off the tail of the snowboard and maintain control as it glides. By incorporating the technique of hopping while riding, you can precisely manage your speed and execute nimble turns with ease.
B. 73 to 78 points:
Focus on the key techniques of rising and turning by twisting your feet around the snowshoes.
A. 79 points and above:
Turn nimbly using a tilted technique—when leaning into the turn, keep your feet firmly pressed against the snowboard, letting your body guide the board smoothly in the direction of the turn. As you do this, feel the outer edge of the snowboard gently glide outward in parallel with the slope. Move forward about 10 centimeters, then slowly begin to execute the turn.
Key points for parallel turning movements:
① Slightly widen your stance, simultaneously pushing off the snow with your side edge toward the outside of the turn while attempting to glide sideways. At this moment, focus on maintaining control…The snowboard seems to leave the body only to return beneath it.This feeling—this is crucial. If you find it, try propelling yourself forward by pushing with both snowboards, and really feel it!The crossed sensation of the body leaving—and immediately returning.
②Adjust the knee movement to modify the turning radius.Note that subtle knee movements are essential. High-level practice involves repeatedly honing this very feeling.
③ To turn earlier,Keep your upper body tucked in and lean your entire body forward as you glide. It is absolutely necessary.
④ After completing the first half, the next step isA sudden upward flick of the waistPush toward the waist using the strength of your calves.
⑤ Next, doInside turn maneuver, if you don’t realize pulling inward, you can’t instantly bend your waist inward.
If you memorize this sequence of movements, the motion will glide smoothly like a pendulum. And if you can perform these actions with fluidity, you’ll effortlessly transition into the next turn. Remember,When turning your waist inward, make sure the angle is smooth and gentle.
