Day 4 of the Singapore World Swimming Championships: It’s on fire! Li Bingjie stages a stunning late surge, overtaking six competitors to claim the silver in the 200m freestyle. Meanwhile, Pan Zhanle misses out on the 100m freestyle final—what a thrilling finish!
On the evening of July 30, the swimming events at the World Championships in Singapore awarded medals in five different categories.
Men's 800m freestyle final,Tunisian star Ahmed Jowadi clinched the gold medal with a time of 7:36.88, while Germany claimed both the silver and bronze medals—Schwartz took silver in 7:36.96, and Martens finished third with 7:40.19.
Women's 200m freestyle final,Li Bingjie staged a stunning comeback, moving from eighth place at the halfway mark to overtaking six competitors in the final 100 meters—ultimately clinching the silver medal with a personal best time of 1:54.52!
Australian athlete O'Callaghan won the gold with a time of 1:53.48, while American swimmer Weinstein claimed third place at 1:54.67.

After the race began, O'Callaghan and Weinstein, who were swimming in the middle lanes, took the lead. At the halfway mark, Weinstein was first with a time of 55.90 seconds, while O'Callaghan trailed by a narrow 0.03 seconds in second place. Li Bingjie initially ranked eighth but surged up to sixth immediately after the turn. By the 150-meter mark, O'Callaghan held a slight edge. In the final 50 meters, O'Callaghan accelerated decisively to pull ahead, while Li Bingjie also picked up her pace, rapidly climbing to fourth place and setting up an intense battle with Britain’s Colbert for third. In the closing moments, Li Bingjie pushed even harder, overtaking Weinstein to claim second place.

Men's 200m butterfly final,American athlete Luca Ulandi claimed the gold medal with a time of 1:51.87, while Polish competitor Chmieliewski took home the silver with 1:52.64, and Australian swimmer Harrison Turner earned bronze in 1:54.17.
Chen Jun'er competed in lane 3, finishing fourth at the 150-meter mark but ultimately fading in the final 50 meters. She finished seventh with a time of 1:55.25, falling short of her semifinal performance of 1:54.02.
Men's 50-meter breaststroke final, Qin Haiyang with 26.67SecondWinning the bronze medal, Italy claimed one gold and one bronze at this World Championship. Italian athlete Serrasoro clocked 26.54.SecondSecuring the championship, neutral athlete Prigoda clocked 26.62.SecondRunner-up.

The final of the 4x100-meter medley relay,The Chinese team, consisting of Xu JiaYu, Qin Haiyang, Zhang Yufei, and Wu Qingfeng, finished second with a time of 3:39.99. The neutral team3:37.97 secured the victory, while the Canadian team finished third with a time of 3:40.90.
After the race, Xu JiaYu updated his social media, writing: "Let me say something different—I feel like my teammates treated me like a rookie today, taking me right back to 2013."
Men's 100m Freestyle SemifinalA major upset occursWorld record holder and 2024 Paris Olympics champion Pan Zhanle finished 10th overall with a time of 47.81 seconds, missing out on the final! American athlete Alexi clocked in at 46.81 seconds.SecondSecuring first place in the semifinals and setting a North American record. Romanian athlete Popovici clocked 46.84.SecondSecond place. Australian athlete Chalmers, 47.36SecondSixth in the overall ranking.
Both Pan Zhanle and Chalmers were in the first heat—yet only Chalmers, who finished first in that group, advanced to the final. Pan Zhanle, unfortunately finishing third, was eliminated.
The second group is incredibly strong, with a total of 7 members advancing to the finals.
Pan Zhanle, the first swimmer in the group, had a start reaction time of 0.64 seconds. In the first 50 meters, he moved from fourth to second place mid-race, trailing the Spanish competitor by 0.22 seconds. However, in the final 50 meters, Pan briefly dropped to sixth position. Thanks to his exceptional finishing speed, though, he steadily climbed back up the rankings, ultimately touching the wall in 47.81 seconds.SecondSecured third place in the group.

Women's 50m Backstroke SemifinalWan Letian delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 27.44.SecondSecured the fourth spot to reach the finals.Reagan-Smith from the same group: 27.23SecondRanked first in the semifinals.
Women's 200m butterfly semifinal,Yu Zidi finished eighth with a time of 2:07.95, advancing to the final in her second event after competing in the 200m individual medley. Ma Yonghui clocked 2:08.59, placing fifth in her heat and 11th overall, but unfortunately missed out on reaching the final.
Yu Zidi swam in Heat 2, Lane 3, with reigning champion and clear favorite McIntosh right beside her. After the first 50 meters, Yu Zidi was in second place, just 0.08 seconds behind McIntosh. Midway through the race, Denmark’s Bach surged into first, while Yu Zidi dropped to second, trailing by 0.22 seconds. By the 150-meter mark, McIntosh had reclaimed the lead, leaving Yu Zidi in fourth place, now 0.56 seconds behind. In the final 50 meters, Yu Zidi began to fade due to fatigue and ultimately finished sixth in her heat, with McIntosh clocking a dominant time of 2:06.22 to claim first place overall.
Men's 200m individual medley semifinal,French swimmer Marchand, competing in the second heat, shattered the previous world record of 1:54.00 set by American star Lochte at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships, clocking a stunning time of 1:52.69. This marks the first world record broken at this year's championships. Meanwhile, Wang Shun finished fifth in his heat with a time of 1:57.48, placing seventh overall and securing his spot in the final.
