World Aquatics will update the competition rules in 2025.



On December 5, 2024, the official website of World Aquatics announced that it will update certain competition rules and swimming equipment requirements for the sports of swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, open-water swimming, and high-diving events. The revised guidelines will be implemented starting with World Aquatics' scheduled events in 2025.
Here are the changes for swimming and open-water swimming events:

Swimming
In the backstroke event,Backstroke starterThe specifications will be adjusted, changing the original minimum width from 65 centimeters to60 centimeters

Open-water swimming
(2)Video referee(Video Review Judge): A new type of technical official has been added to ensure the fairness of competition results.
(3)Wearable Device Technology:Update the requirements for declaring and tracking wearable technology.

New rules update swimming gear requirements
(1) Open WaterSwimwear for Cold Weather: The design requirements for cold-weather suits in open-water swimming will be updated to make the designs more flexible.
(2) Approval of Swimming Equipment Accessories: For those already recognized as meeting the requirements of the international standard (ISO)Swimming goggles, streamline its approval process
(3) Launching women's swimwear designed specifically for period-friendly wear:The latest rules will allow women to wear specially designed swimwear during their periods, prioritizing both functionality and modesty while still adhering to basic swimwear standards.
(4) Swimming Equipment Management Process:The swimming equipment approval system will be updated, eliminating the requirement to submit applications three times a year.
